Exercise and Osteoarthritis |
 |
|
Regular exercise can help to reduce
joint pain. Begin by walking or swimming every day for 5 to 10
minutes, gradually increasing the amount of time you exercise. Try
stretching exercises such as yoga for movement and posture. When you
exercise, don’t push yourself too hard. Movements that jar the
knees, hips or other joints can lead directly to osteoarthritis. It
is also important that you wear shoes that fit well and are designed
specifically for the activity you are taking part in. Well cushioned
soles reduce the stress on weight-bearing joints.
